Gameplay

  • 8+ Players 👥

  • 3-5 Minutes ⏱️

What You’ll Need

  • A basketball or playground ball

  • A space large enough for everyone to stand in a circle or scattered formation

Setup

  • Have all players spread out in a circle or large open area where they can see the leader.

  • The leader should hold the ball in a visible position in the center.

How to Play

  • Explain the Rules: Tell players they must clap only when the ball hits the ground—not when it’s faked.

  • Begin the Round: The leader raises the ball and either bounces it or fakes a bounce.

  • Clap or Freeze:

    • If the ball hits the ground, everyone must clap immediately.

    • If the leader fakes the bounce (without releasing the ball), players must not clap.

  • Eliminate Mistakes: Any player who claps at the wrong time or doesn’t clap when they should is out.

  • Last Player Standing: Continue until only one player remains. That player becomes the next leader (or the winner, depending on how long you want to play).

Say Something Like
“Alright, everyone—get ready to test those reflexes! If you clap too early, you’re out. If you clap too late, you’re out. And if you clap when I don’t even bounce it... you guessed it—you’re out! Let’s see who’s got nerves of steel.”

Variations

  • Silent Bounce – Players must close their eyes and rely only on sound to time their clap.

  • Double Trouble – Use two leaders with balls. Now players must watch both!

  • Sudden Death – Final three players must clap in perfect unison, or all are out!

Discipleship Teaching Points
This game emphasizes listening, self-control, and discernment—great reminders that God’s voice is often still and quiet, and we must pay attention to follow Him (1 Kings 19:12).

Secular Teaching Points
Kids learn to control impulsive reactions and sharpen focus—a fun and engaging way to improve listening and attention skills.
