Brush Blitz

In this creative and chaotic painting challenge, teams race to recreate a Bob Ross painting—switching painters every 30 seconds! It's artistic teamwork with a twist, where everyone gets a brush and no one knows what's coming next.

Gameplay

  • 6+ Players 👥

  • 8-10 Minutes ⏱️

What You’ll Need

  • One canvas per team

  • Acrylic paints (primary colors, black, white, brown, etc.)

  • Paintbrushes (1–2 per team)

  • Paper plates or palettes for mixing

  • Water cups and paper towels

  • Table coverings (optional)

  • Easels (optional)

  • Screen and speaker system to play a Bob Ross tutorial at 1.5x or 2x speed

  • Timer or a facilitator to yell “Switch!” every 30 seconds

  • Judging panel or criteria (optional: funniest, most accurate, best teamwork, etc.)

Setup

  • Arrange one table per team with painting supplies ready.

  • Place canvases and paints so they’re easily accessible to each team.

  • Queue up a Bob Ross video on a screen where all can see.

  • Test the audio and ensure it's playing at the desired speed (1.5x or 2x).

  • Designate a host to run the game and call out “Switch!” every 30 seconds.

How to Play

  • Form teams: Divide players into teams of 4–5. If your group is smaller, then do smaller teams.

  • Explain the challenge: Each team will try to recreate the painting by following Bob Ross—fast!

  • Start the tutorial: Begin playing the Bob Ross video.

  • Rotate painters: Every 30 seconds, yell “Switch!” and the next teammate must take over painting.

  • Keep it moving: Continue rotating until the video ends.

  • Display and judge: Have each team display their finished canvas. Either let a panel vote or cheer for a winner!

Say Something Like
“Alright artists, welcome to Brush Blitz! Bob Ross is about to teach us how to paint a masterpiece—but at lightning speed. Every 30 seconds, I’ll yell ‘Switch!’ and the next person will have to pick up the brush and keep it going. Work together, follow Bob, and most importantly—don’t mess up the happy little trees!”

Variations

  • Silent Canvas: No talking allowed between teammates during the game.

  • Mystery Color: Each team is assigned one “mystery” color they must use prominently.

  • Freeze Frame: Pause the video halfway through and teams must freestyle the rest.

Teaching Points
Brush Blitz helps players experience the tension of letting go of control and trusting others to carry on what they started—just like in spiritual growth and teamwork within the body of Christ.
