Strips of paper
List of barnyard animals (cow, pig, sheep, chicken, goat, etc.)
Blindfolds (optional, for extra difficulty)
Write animal names: Write the name of a barnyard animal on each strip of paper. Make sure multiple players share the same animal.
Distribute the papers: Hand one strip to each player without letting them see others' slips.
Designate play space: Choose an open area where players can move around safely.
Give instructions: Tell players they must form groups based on their assigned animal.
Make animal sounds only: Players are only allowed to make the sound of the animal on their slip. No speaking!
Start the timer: Give them 30 seconds to find others making the same sound.
Declare a winner: The largest group at the end of the time wins!
Say Something Like
“Alright, it’s about to get noisy in here! On your slip is the name of a barnyard animal. Your job is to find your fellow animals—but you can only communicate by making your animal sound. No words, just 'moos,' 'oinks,' or 'baaas!' Let’s see who finds their herd the fastest!”
Variations
Lights Out: Turn off the lights or blindfold everyone to increase the challenge.
Silent Herding: Have one round where players can only mime their animal's motion—no sounds!
Animal Freeze: Once players think they've found their group, they must freeze—no switching!
Discipleship Teaching Points
This game opens the door to discuss how the Body of Christ has many members with different “sounds” and roles, but we are unified in our purpose. "For as the body is one, and hath many members... so also is Christ." (1 Corinthians 12:12, KJV)
Secular Teaching Points
Great for emphasizing teamwork, communication without words, and observation. Helps kids learn to think outside the box and use creative problem-solving in group dynamics.
