12+ Players 👥
5-8 Minutes ⏱️
Hula hoops (at least 3 per team, more is better)
Playground balls or dodgeballs (2 per team)
Cones (to mark throw lines and boundaries)
Create teams of 3–5 players each.
Line up each team behind a throwing line (like a gym baseline).
Place hula hoops in a line down the field/court in front of each team at appropriate distances (closer for younger kids, further for older).
Set cones at the far end of the court/field to mark the “steal zone” for later in the game.
Give each team balls to roll.
Start with a relay roll. Each team member takes turns rolling their ball, aiming to land it inside a hula hoop.
If the ball lands in a hoop, the player runs to grab the hoop and brings it back to their team’s base.
Hand the ball off. After retrieving the ball, pass it to the next player in line.
Repeat until all hoops are claimed by a team.
Add the twist. Once a team has claimed all of their own hoops, they may begin stealing hoops from other teams by rolling their ball from the far “steal zone” (marked by cones) into another team’s hoop.
Keep playing. The game continues until a timer runs out or all hoops are claimed by one team.
Winning. The team with the most hoops at the end wins!
Say Something Like
“Alright teams, welcome to Hoop Rollers! Your goal is to roll your ball into the hoops lined up in front of you. If you make it in, bring that hoop back to your base! But don’t stop there—once you’ve captured all your hoops, you can start stealing from the others! Let's see who can roll their way to victory!”
Variations
Partner Roll – Two players roll together while holding opposite ends of a pool noodle.
Obstacle Roll – Add cones or soft blocks between the line and hoops to make rolling more challenging.
Target Points – Assign different point values to hoops at different distances.
